Zoo Boo – Pittsburgh Zoo

Every year during October the Zoo becomes a destination for both viewing animals and trick-or-treating! Consider bringing your family to the Pittsburgh Zoo this fall to enjoy the animals, snack on some candy, participate in a Halloween parade, and costume contest. Asian Lantern Festival – Pittsburgh zoo

In addition to having the annual ZooBoo, the Pittsburgh Zoo also lights up with Asian Laterns to celebrate Asian culture. You can either walk through the Zoo to enjoy the laterns, or you can opt to drive through.

Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival

Every year for 6 weekends the Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival becomes a fun-filled destination to walk into history! The festival offers hours of entertainment, food, drinks, vendors, and arts and crafts all in the name of celebrating the Renaissance.

Gateway Clipper Fall Cruises

During the fall, the Gateway Clipper runs their traditional and Halloween-themed cruises! This season, the Gateway Clipper is featuring a Halloween Cruise that shares haunty Pittsburgh tales. In addition to hearing spooky stories, you’ll get to cruise around the three rivers and view the fall foliage.

Fall Flower Show at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens

Every year, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens puts on a beautiful fall flower show. This year’s show is titled Hometown Harvest and features the new Garden Railroad display – Garden Railroad: Through the Seasons.

Festival of Combustion – Rivers of Steel

The Rivers of Steel Festival of Combustion is one of Pittsburgh’s annual events that celebrates the industrial arts and heritage of the United States. Throughout the day, you will see live metalworking demonstrations, participate in hands-on crafts and activities workshops, and enjoy live music, food, and drinks. And it all happens at the Carrie Blast Furnaces in Rankin, so you can see the remnants of Pittsburgh’s industrial past as well!

South Park Hay Day

Pennsylvania Trolley Museum Pumpkin Patch Trolley and Trick or Trolley

The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum in Washington is hosting two fall events this season. October 21 -22, 2023 is the Pumpkin Patch Trolley where you can ride the trolley to the pumpkin patch and pick your own pumpkin. One pumpkin is included in each admission ticket.

The next weekend is Trick or Trolley where kids can come dressed up, trick or treat, and ride the decorated trolleys! There will be crafts and activities as well.

The $14-15 Admission to both events included unlimited trolley rides and admission to the museum exhibits.

Delmont Apple ‘n Arts Festival at Shield’s Farm

The Delmont Apple n’ Arts Festival is a massive fall festival featuring all things apples, local artisans, entertainment, kids activities, an an apple bake contest!

Stahlstown Flax Scutching Festival

At the Stahlstown Flax Scutching Festival, visitors can witness every step involved in creating Linen from the Flax plant. Along with this, the festival offers a variety of attractions such as delicious homemade food, handmade crafts, displays of antique farm equipment, live music, a civil war encampment, a covered wagon train encampment, and a staged Indian raid.

Fort Ligonier Days

Fort Ligonier Days is one of the largest fall festivals in Westmoreland County! Fort Ligonier Day is a three-day event that features historic battle reenactments, top-rated crafts, delicious foods, local spirits, popular musical entertainment, a parade, and a 5K walk/run. And Ligonier is located in the heart of the Laurel Highlands, making it a beautiful setting to see fall foliage!

Autumnfest at Seven Springs Resort

If you’re considering taking a day trip from Pittsburgh in the fall, stop a Seven Springs Resort for Autumnfest! This weekly festival in October features food and craft vendors, live music, ski lift rides, hay rides, a pumpkin patch, and more all nestled in the beautiful fall foliage of the resort.

Every year, Houston hosts their Annual Pumpkin Festival! With over 175 vendors, this massive festival offers plenty of fall fun. The festival has activities and games for children, food, music, and a pumpkin parade!

Baldwin Fall Fest

Come enjoy carnival games, a face painter, a balloon twister, a pumpkin patch, a scavenger hunt, and food vendors at this Fall Fest in Baldwin! Penn Brewery, Plum Run Winery, and Arsenal Cider House will be on-site serving up drinks!

Phantom Fall Fest at Kennywood

During the fall Kennywood is transformed into both a family-friendly fall festival and a scare zone! Before 6 p.m., you can enjoy the fall festivities, but after dark, enter only if you dare! Over 30 rides and attractions are open during Phantom Fall Fest, and the park is decorated with fall decor. After 6 pm, the 6 haunted houses and 4 scare zones open.

Pumpkin Patches Near Pittsburgh and in Southwestern Pennsylvania

One of the best parts of the fall near Pittsburgh is visiting local farms for their pumpkin patches! There are some of the best pumpkin patches in Western Pennsylvania to celebrate the season and grab a pumpkin!

Soergels Orchards in Wexford, PA

Soergel’s Fall Festival is one of the top farms near Pittsburgh for pumpkin picking, apple picking, and fall festivities. Apple picking is available daily. You can also travel through the orchard on a hayride. Soergel’s features a market and shop where you can enjoy food, shop, and have apple cider. At the festival, people of all ages can enjoy games and other fun activities. Soergal’s now features Arsenal Cider on site for those 21+ to enjoy.

On Friday evenings from 5 pm to 7 pm, Soergel’s is offering Friday Night Hayrides through the orchard. These are not haunted hayrides!

Simmons Farm in McMurray, PA

Simmons Farm, McMurray, Washington County. Fall activities are available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 9:00 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 5:45 p.m. Private group hayrides are offered at night.

At Simmons Farm, you can pick your own pumpkins, apples, and flowers almost any day of the week (check their website for exact hours). You can take a walk or hayride out to the Harvest Trail. Explore 5 acres of pumpkins, 2- and 4-acre corn mazes, a petting zoo, and an apple labyrinth. Games include pumpkin corn hole, a tire maze, rubber duck races, and a 100-foot slide.  

From Sept. 15 through Nov. 3, take a nighttime hayride around the farm. The wagon will take you to a bonfire, where you can enjoy marshmallows and fresh apples.

Triple B Farms in Monongahela, PA

Triple B Farms, Monongahela, Washington County – Open throughout late September and October. Fall Family Fun is on weekends from September 23 – October 30, 2023. Visit the website for a detailed schedule of what is available each weekend.

Triple B Farms is a great one-stop for finding fall decor. Pick your own pumps, apples, and flowers and stop by the Decorating Tent to find cornstalks, hay bales, gourds, mini pumpkins, Indian corn, and mums. The Food Barn is open each weekend featuring lots of seasonal dishes including apple fries, apple cider donuts, apple cider slushies, sandwiches, and loaded fries.

Fall Family Fun on the weekends offers two corn mazes, hayrides, farm animals, and games including scooters, grain bin basketball, giant slides, rope maze, and more. In the first weekend of October, children are invited to make their own life-size scarecrow (space is limited and tickets are available online). Triple B Farms also offers apple picking and sunflower picking!

Trax Farms in Finleyville, PA

Trax Farms, Finleyville, Washington County – weekends September 24 – October 23, 2022, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Tickets are available in advance and given priority. Special hayrides are available Fridays and Halloween weekend.

Trax Farms’ Fall Festival invites you to hop on a hayride to pick your own pumpkins in the pumpkin patch, navigate your way through a 3-acre corn maze, and say hello to the farm animals. Enjoy a variety of fun activities like a bungee jumper, slides, and axe throwing, along with live music and food trucks.

Hayrides are also offered on Fridays from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m., and on Halloween weekend from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Large groups can arrange for a special Thursday hayride, as well.

On select evenings, Trax Farms offers Hops and Hayrides, where you can browse a variety of fall beers and wines, and take a hayride to the pumpkin patch, corn maze, farm animals, and yard games. This event is family-friendly, too!

Harvest Valley Farms

Harvest Valley Farms, Gibsonia, Allegheny County – weekends October 1 – 23, 2022.

At Harvest Valley Farms’ Fall Festival, you can pick your own pumpkin in the pumpkin patch, take a hayride, meander through a cornstalk maze and kids’ straw tunnel, visit farm animals, and more. Fun activities also include crafts and pumpkin carving kits. Concessions are available from Zimmerman’s Farm, Conny Creek Brewing, and Harvest Valley Farms baked goods and caramel apples.

Iron Mills Farmstead

Irons Mill Farmstead, New Wilmington, Lawrence County – October 6 – 30, 2022, Thursday – Saturday (plus Sunday, October 10). Visit the website for full schedule.

Irons Mill Farmstead has plenty to offer with themed festivals each week of October, including the Pumpkin Festival, Fall-a-Bration, Donut Days, and Costume Days. Enjoy a corn maze, petting zoo, campfires, and more than 35 activities for kids, including straw mountains, slides, pumpkin bowling, apple blasters, rope spider webs, tug of war, and so much more. Fuel up from all the fun with 8 eateries to choose from, including pizza, corn dogs, food from the grill, donuts, lemonade, and hot drinks. You can also get a season pass for all activities from August to November!

Shenot Farm Pumpkin Patch

Shenot Farm, Wexford, Allegheny County – September 24 – October 30, 2022, open 7 days a week from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. ​Hayrides weekends only. Free weekdays, $2 admission on weekends.

Shenot Farm invites you to take a 1/2 scenic path to the pumpkin patch, where you can pick your own pumpkins. On weekends, you can hop on the hayride to visit the pumpkin patch. Also, on weekends, Shenot Farm has lined up a delicious variety of food trucks, including pizza, cheesesteaks, and lobster (check their website and social media for food truck schedules).

Shenot Farm is known for its 15-acre apple orchard going 25 varieties of apples. They also sell fresh apple cider processed safely on-site with ultraviolet light to preserve the natural taste

Great Pumpkin Weekends at Spring House Market

The SpringHouse, Washington – weekends September 24 – October 30, 2022, 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Great Pumpkin Weekends are a longstanding tradition at the Spring House Farm. Hop on a tractor-drawn hayride to visit the pumpkin patch, where you can pick your own pumpkin. Explore corn mazes designed for children and all ages, climb Bale Mountain, slide down the tube slide, and play some games in the shade. Stop by the SpringHouse Market for lunch (the menu is available on their website), ice cream, cookies, and fall treats.

Pumpkin Festival and Fright Nights at Cheeseman Farm

Cheeseman Farm, Portersville, Butler County, weekends September 17 – October 30, 2022 (plus Monday, October 11), 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Cheeseman Farm captures the cheery festivities of pumpkin picking during the day and the frightful nature of this time of year at night. During the day, enjoy Cheeseman Farm’s Pumpkin Festival, where you can take a hayride, pick your own pumpkin, play in the hay jump, and pet animals in the petting zoo. Purchase some of the items that have been growing on the farm, including gourds, Indian corn, honey, apple butter, and cornstalks.

At night, the farm turns into a Fright Farm, with haunted hayrides, corn mazes, and over 100 actors ready to make you scream.

Janoski’s Pumpkinland

Janoski’s Farm & Greenhouse, Clinton, Allegheny County – weekends October 1 – 30, 2023, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Janoski’s Farm transforms into Pumpkinland in October. Pick a pumpkin at the pumpkin patch, enjoy a scenic hayride (which goes through the property but not the pumpkin patch), navigate the corn maze, and venture into the haunted barn if you dare. Children will love the pony rides, petting zoo, and corn play pit. The Farm Market sells produce, honey, apple butter, eggs, pickled products, sauces, soaps, and candles. The Lakeside Venue also hosts local craft vendors.

Freedom Farms Fall Festival

Freedom Farms Fall Festival features tractor rides, corn maze, corn pit, hay mountain, petting zoo, and pick-your-own sunflowers!

Rich’s Farms

Located just before you pass into West Virginia, Rich’s Farm is another great farm near Pittsburgh that offers activities for kids. Kid’s Day at the Farm runs October 1 – October 31 (closed Mondays & Tuesdays, except Monday, Oct. 10 for Columbus Day). Admission includes a scenic hayride, pumpkin patch, corn maze, pumpkin decorating, and more!

At night, Rich’s Farm turns terrifying and into Fright Farm, one of the largest and most popular haunted house experiences in Pennsylvania! Open on Thursdays to Sundays from October 1 to October 31.

Gearhard Farms Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch

Gearhard Farms, Murrysville, Westmoreland County – weekends September 3 – October 30.

Gearhard Farms designs intricate corn mazes, which from above create pictures ranging from a map of the United States to Pennsylvania’s coat of arms to the solar system. The corn maze offers four challenges for maze goers to take on, including 1) finding the exit, 2) drawing the design of the maze on paper as you walk the paths, 3) take on the 20 trivia questions, and 4) find all five of the animal pictures hidden inside the maze. Gearhard Farms also offers hayrides and a pumpkin patch, and sells fall decorations including cornstalks, straw bales, and more.

Duda’s Farms

Hayrides with pumpkin picking are September 24 – October 31, 2023 from 11am until 5:30pm (open until dusk) $20 per person and kids under 2 are free. Price includes your pumpkin.

Corn maze, pumpkin patch in the field, pumpkins (brought in from the field), wagon rides, concession stand (drinks, snacks and/or food), corn maze, and more! Duda’s Farm is a great “one stop shop” fall festival where you can enjoy picking your own pumpkin, a hayride, and corn maze! After dark, the corn maze gets spooky for a haunted maze!

Kistaco Farms

Kistaco Farms in Apollo sells fresh apple cider made from apples grown at their orchard. Each batch is unique based on the apples that grow that year, and no preservatives or sugar are added! In addition to apples, the farm sells pumpkins and other fresh produce in their market. Find their delicious apple cider at their onsite market, open year-round.

Hozak Farms

Hozak Farms, Clinton, Allegheny County – weekday pumpkin patch hayrides in October, 2:00 – 6:00 p.m., weekend fall festival through October, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., plus Monday, October 11 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

There are plenty of opportunities to find pumpkins at Hozak Farms! Take a hayride to the pumpkin patch and enjoy activities including pumpkin painting, a straw pile, and farm animals on view. Visit the Gift Barn for all fall and Halloween decorations including pumpkins, corn stalks, mums, witches, scarecrows, tabletop, wall decor, decorative flags, and candles. If you celebrate the Christmas season, the Christmas shop is also open with over 30 decorated trees and hundreds of ornaments from which to choose.

Fair Haven Farms

Fair Haven Farms, Grove City, Mercer County – open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from September 16 – October 30, 2022, 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.(and on Monday, October 11). Advance tickets not needed.

The Fall Festival at Fair Haven Farms has a hayride (expanded from previous years) to the pumpkin patch. If you aren’t able to take the hayride, you can also purchase pumpkins in a centrally located yard. Find your way through a more challenging, improved corn maze, see what the goats are up to at the petting zoo, and stop by the hayloft shops to purchase honey, jams, crafts, and seasonal items.

Fair Haven Farms Fall Festival

The Fair Haven Farms Fall Festival includes a hayride to the pumpkin patch, a corn maze, a gift shop, food shack, and fall activities. The hayride is included in your ticket.
